18 and out…

Its was my birthday a few days ago – 18. I got some really nice presents and had brilliant party with my friends. Its tough at the minute. Im 18 and I should be doing 18 year old things, hanging out with my friends, going down to the pub, staying up late and eating junk food. Non of that is allowed for me and some people have said im denying myself a childhood.

Im hardly a child and up until I started taking this swimming business seriously, I did everything my friends where doing. Ive learnt from an early age life is about sacrifice. You cant have everything you want in life and you have to work hard for the luxuries you do want. Thats what im doing. Okay, I might not get to drink myself stupid at the weekend but I look at the positives in it all. I get to save the money, I dont get a hangover which ruins my weekend and I get to spare my liver the abuse!

If I can fulfill my dreams, I will get to travel the world as an olympic swimmer – what more can a person possible need!?

I originally started this site as a personal diary of my progress to making the 2012 Olympic games in London. The overwhelming amount of followers I accidentally gained meant that I had to start taking it a little more seriously and make regular updates! Im not complaining though, I love updating the blog and reading your messages of support. In actual fact, these messages are what kept me going when I went through that difficult spell at the start of the year.

Ive found a new passion in writing and I know that some of my followers have gone on to start their own blogs which also gives me an immense sense of achievement. The fact that I have inspired people to take on a new hobby is something that I should hold in great honour, and I do. Its just a shame I cant persuade everyone to swim! Although if I did that, I might not be as good!

If you want to find out more about me and what I am trying to acheive, head over to my About Me page and you can learn what Im upto. You could even follow along if you like!!

Like I said, I only started this blog to keep a record of times and what I am eating etc. Ever since I read “Cant Remember The Books Name!!!” (ill fill it in later, sorry) it changed my whole perspective on performance. The book documented the progress of a bunch of sports people and athletes, some with diaries and some without. The ones that kept records of what they were eating and what there training habits where the ones that performed the best. I think this is down to trend spotting and the fact that if they dont go and train or happen to eat a big peice of cake, it will all be recorded in black and white – which is often incentive enough to put the cake down!

Anyway, given these principles and my number one goal to make it to the Olympics, I started this blog. Please follow along and leave comments, I love you guys and could not have done this without you.
